If you've spent any time researching brow tattooing, you've probably seen "nano brows" and "microblading" used almost interchangeably. They're not the same thing — and the difference matters for how your brows heal, how long they last, and how natural they look up close.
The Tool Is Different
Microblading uses a handheld tool with a row of tiny needles to create hair-like strokes by hand. Nano brows use a digital machine with a single ultra-fine needle, moving at a consistent speed and depth. That consistency is a big part of why nano strokes tend to come out finer and more uniform than hand-drawn microblading strokes.
How They Heal
Because microblading uses a blade-like tool that cuts a small channel into the skin, it tends to sit more superficially and can heal softer or blurrier over time — especially on oily skin, where strokes are more likely to blur together into a powdery look. Nano brows implant pigment more precisely at a consistent depth, which generally holds a crisper, more hair-like line through the healing process, including on skin types where microblading tends to struggle.
Which One Is Right For You
Neither technique is universally "better" — it depends on your skin type, your natural brow density, and the look you want. That's exactly why we don't skip the consultation. Before any pigment touches your skin, we map your shape, assess your skin type, and show you a drawn-on preview so you can see the design and discuss which technique fits you best.
- Oily or combination skin often holds nano strokes more crisply, long-term
- Dry, thinner skin can sometimes work well with either technique
- If you want the most natural, hair-like result available, nano is generally the more precise option
- If you have very little natural brow hair, we often recommend combo brows — nano strokes blended with soft powder shading for more fullness
